I am taking a break from Japan posts
Because the sun is out, and it’s seventy degrees Fahrenheit outside!!!
If you know us Seattleleites, you’ll know that we are sun-deprived throughout the winter and as soon as the sun comes out, we drop whatever we do and head out.
Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is held every spring (April 1st to 30th) in Mt. Vernon, Washington, sixty miles north of Seattle.
You don’t need to go to Holland to see the field of rainbow colors
There are two main display gardens at the festival: Tulip Town and RozzenGaarde. Each requires a $5-$6 entrance fee, parking included.
We prefer the fields than the display gardens
During weekends in April, traffic usually backs up all the way from north bound I-5
To avoid the crowd and the traffic, try visiting on a weekday
But on a sunny day, you get stuck in traffic no matter what…
One trick is to get off the freeway further north at Exit 230, and take route 20…
If you want to use GPS, wait till you get to route 20 to plug in the address
We didn’t encounter any traffic on route 20 on a sunny Thursday. But on weekends, all bets are off.
Parking is on the lawn and make sure you have cash with you
Don’t forget to wear sunscreen
And stay on the main path
The farmers are trying to make a living
There will be tulip pickers working in the fields
And it’s all labor work
On a sunny day, the colors will be vibrant
whichever way you take it
If you don’t mind the crowd, it is worth the drive!

Gorgeous photos! I haven’t been to La Conner/Mt Vernon for years. I was going to drive through on my way to Seattle this week, but my plans fell through and now I’m on a ‘staycation’. i’ll have to try to see the tulips next year. Ciao, Cristina
