That’s a Wrap – 2016

2016 isn’t a big travel year for me. I’ve only been to three countries: Japan, Iceland and Greenland. Both Japan and Iceland were re-visits.

My top 3 most memorable moments in Japan are all related to snow:

#1 seeing the elegant red-crowned cranes in the snow in Hokkaido:

#2 snapping tons of photos of the Japanese snow monkeys:

#3 staying at a farmhouse in the village of Shirakawa-go and waking up to snowfall:

In Iceland, I finally got to ride the Icelandic horse, and made a day trip to the Snæfellsnes peninsula.

Greenland is the only new country I visited in 2016 and it turns out to be very special. There is not a single moment on that trip that I do not cherish.

Down memory lane, I’ve started writing about Switzerland, which I have yet to finish. But I did conclude the travelogue of our 2013 trip to France, with a grand finale par la Fête des Lumières.

Back home, I’ve spent time hiking, eating and playing tourist. I’ve also done quite a bit of cooking trying out new recipes, especially with foraged ingredients, such as ramps dumpling, wild mushroom lasagna, and this elderflower cordial that I’ve turned into a refreshing delicious gelée.

I am looking forward to 2017 because we will be back to France after being away for three years and we also have plans to visit the Piemonte region of Italy, as well as a trip to visit several US National Parks.

I would like to thank all of you who took the time reading my blog, making comments or simply stopping by. You are the reason I am still writing it. I wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2017!

  1. 😆 Three countries in one year is still quite an achievement, especially since you got to re-experience Japan and Iceland! I love your photos of the monkeys and cranes and your elderflower cordial looks delicious. Happy New Year and happy travels in 2017! I look forward to your geographic and culinary explorations.
