2016 isn’t a big travel year for me. I’ve only been to three countries: Japan, Iceland and Greenland. Both Japan and Iceland were re-visits.
My top 3 most memorable moments in Japan are all related to snow:
#1 seeing the elegant red-crowned cranes in the snow in Hokkaido:
#2 snapping tons of photos of the Japanese snow monkeys:
#3 staying at a farmhouse in the village of Shirakawa-go and waking up to snowfall:
In Iceland, I finally got to ride the Icelandic horse, and made a day trip to the Snæfellsnes peninsula.
Greenland is the only new country I visited in 2016 and it turns out to be very special. There is not a single moment on that trip that I do not cherish.
Down memory lane, I’ve started writing about Switzerland, which I have yet to finish. But I did conclude the travelogue of our 2013 trip to France, with a grand finale par la Fête des Lumières.
Back home, I’ve spent time hiking, eating and playing tourist. I’ve also done quite a bit of cooking trying out new recipes, especially with foraged ingredients, such as ramps dumpling, wild mushroom lasagna, and this elderflower cordial that I’ve turned into a refreshing delicious gelée.
I am looking forward to 2017 because we will be back to France after being away for three years and we also have plans to visit the Piemonte region of Italy, as well as a trip to visit several US National Parks.
I would like to thank all of you who took the time reading my blog, making comments or simply stopping by. You are the reason I am still writing it. I wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2017!
Love the photos!

I now realize that you live in the US so the first part of my statement was kind of stupid haha. Clearly I wasn’t paying attention….

Wow, I love to see Tancho (Red crowned Crane) but have never done yet. Were they dancing when you were there? Shirakawa-go in snow must be something very special too.

Thank you Mutsumi. Yes they were dancing and were very loud as loud as these cranes can be. But they were such as beautiful and elegant creature!

Wonderful shots of breathtaking views! Those Japan shots could easily sit on my wall – do you use your pictures for prints? Those cranes are just heavenly.
