Dough Zone

Chinese restaurants in America (except those in L.A, New York and San Francisco) oftentimes try to serve everything on their menu, from stir-fries to hot-pots, from rice dishes to dumplings and noodles. Unless you know the chef’s specialty before hand and order accordingly, you are likely to be disappointed…that is, if authentic Chinese is what your are after.

Dough Zone is different and that is why they’ve been successful since opening in 2014. As the name indicates, they specialize in all things made with a dough, for instance these Shanghai-style soup dumplings, served piping hot at the table

Juicy Jian Buns (I order them to-go and eat them as breakfast the next day – twenty seconds in the microwave, they are good as new 🙂 )

Beijing-style chive-pockets and pot stickers

Tianjin-style Jianbing guozi (only available at the Crossroad location)

For dessert, my friends swear by this red bean tofu pudding

The taste is subtle but satisfying. It is a great way to complete a meal.

Dough Zone has four locations in the Greater Seattle area – two in Bellevue, one in Redmond, one in Issaquah and is slated to open its first store in Seattle this year. The Crossroad Mall location, being their first restaurant, has several additional items on the menu. The service has a few hits and misses, but overall it is better than most Chinese restaurants. As for the food, everything was made fresh in the restaurant, mostly by hands.

  1. My stomach is grumbling! Being here in France with notoriously inadequate Chinese food, I’m missing it from back home! I’ve never been to Seattle, so going there would be crossing another destination off the bucket list while also enjoying some amazing Chinese food. Win-win situation!

  2. I want to go now! How are the lineups like? Crazy busy hour lines? We’re so lucky to be spoiled with good Chinese food in the Northwest. 😊

  3. Wow you’re making me drool! I am envious of Americans who live in major cities for having access to practically any cuisine in the world. Here in Poland it’s hard to come across any good restaurants serving international cuisine. Asian is my all time favorite. I’d looovee to have an Asian grocery store/ good Asian restaurant around me, hehe 🙂 If I EVER end up in Chicago, I’ll remember this place hehe.

    1. Hi Pooja, Chicago is a great city and I am sure it has a good variety of Chinese restaurants there. Come to Seattle, we have a lot here too. This restaurant has 4 locations across the I-90 bridge from Seattle, where there are larger Asian population due to Microsoft 😉 But it will open a new location in Seattle this year. I will update my post as soon as it happens, so that you can come visit when it is up :). Cheers and have a fantastic week in your beautiful country!

      1. Hahah omg I am so sorry I typed Chicago when I meant Seattle. I am actually good at geography 😉 Seattle sounds amazing! I’d really like to visit the US one day for mostly two top things: the nature and food variety, haha. I am originally from Nepal but I’ve been living in Europe (Finland for the first 2.5 years and Poland since 3 years). Thanks and I hope you have a fantastic week there too! 🙂
