The Blumental Panorama Walk, Switzerland

The morning before heading back to Zurich, we wanted to do a repeat of “the Best Hike” – we’ve done – at the Bernese Oberland. We didn’t have a lot of time so we picked a shorter version of the Northface Trail, also known as the Blumental Panorama Walk. Blumen in German means Flowers, so consequently we saw many wildflowers on this walk.

It was a gorgeous day to begin with.

And I don’t get tired of this view from the balcony of my hotel room.

First we took the train to Lauterbrunnen

Then up the cableway and train to Mürren.

Followed by a short funicular ride to Allmendhubel

We were back to where we were on our second day 🙂

This time we had no trouble finding the trail.

The view was stunning!

Wildflowers aplenty every direction we looked!

There were goats

Waterfalls

A cat?

How lucky she is living in such a paradise!

But then it’s time for us to leave

We took one more look at the Jungfrau, Mönch and the Eiger.

Bye bye Bernese Oberland

A selection of old posters at the Grütschalp Cable Car Station:

Back to Zurich, the temperature hits 31 degrees Celsius 😦

Everyone’s out by the lakefront

We happened to run into the open air broadcast of Donizetti’s Don Pasquale in front of the Zurich Opera House.

It only happens once a year 🙂

This concludes our Switzerland trip. We started our trip in Zurich, made daytrips to Mt. Rigi, Stein am Rhine, Winterthur, Lugano. Before heading to Wengen in the Bernese Oberland and using it as a base to hike the region. It was one of the most rewarding trips from last year, because of the sheer beauty of the region – the mountains, the lakes, the snow, the ice, the waterfalls and the wildflowers. We have to be back another time!

Coming up next: Madeira, Portugal

  1. Oh my! Such beautiful scenery no matter where you go. This part of Switzerland is the dream, and I’m glad you got to experience it all. Can’t wait to read about Portugal next!

  2. Our one visit to Switzerland was on a Viking cruise, and only to Lucerne and the surrounding region. Your photos make me wish we had time for hiking and more time outdoors. Must go back!

      1. So true!! When I leave my phone/computer at home, I don’t miss it. When I travel and turn my phone off, I don’t miss it. I even get tired of taking photos. I can’t be in the moment if all I’m doing is looking for the next photo. I’m not talking about yours.. but I mean in every day life, going to a cafe, etc. At some point, we need to go back to the old days. Just enjoy the moment. 💕
