First to Bachalpsee was an easy hike!
So easy that we didn’t think of doing it in the first place.
As a matter of fact, when we left Lauterbrunnen that morning, this was the hike we had in mind.
But by the time we reached the Wilderswil station to change the train to Schynege Platte, we were told that the Schynige Platte Railway did not operate until July 1st (2023 that is).
So we went to Grindelwald instead.
From Grindelwald , we took the gondola to First.
There, spun off a dozen of hiking options.
We picked the 50-minute walk to Bachalpsee.
With a stop at the First Cliff Walk
While the view was spectacular, it was very touristy indeed!
We were happy to leave it behind and quickly got back on the trail.
In June, part of the trail was still covered by snow. Running streams abound.
And wild flowers.
The lake was covered with sheets of ice.
We thought of staying longer but the clouds looked ominous and it quickly turned chilly as soon as the sun went into hiding.
So we turned around and took the gondola down to Grindelwald.
Back in Wengen, we had bratwurst & rösti and goulash soup for dinner.
Before calling it a night.
Or that’s what we thought we were going to do…
Gorgeous hikes and scenery all around! Followed by a hearty meal afterwards. Looks like a great day!

I wouldn’t handle the Cliff Walk very well with my fear of heights, but I’d do it anyway just for the spectacular scenery. What language is it, the sign on the rock? Do the Swiss speak English in the small towns? I expect you hear a lot of French and German.

German. That cliff walk is not too bad. We did one glass walk in China, it was scary 🙂
