Le Chantecler, Nice

Most restaurants in France are closed on Sundays. The thought of having nothing quality to eat makes me anxious. So I made arrangements ahead.

Hotel Negresco, situated on the Promenade des Anglais, is a hotel as well as a historical
monument in Nice.

Le Chantecler is its elaborated Michelin two-star restaurant.

We came here for lunch and ordered Le Menu Plaisir

The presentation of the food was elegant and artistic. The flavor, however, was forgettable. And the service took their time.

By the time we finished our lunch, it was almost four o’clock.

My friends – perhaps exhausted from hours of sitting and waiting – took a cab back to the hotel.

I decided a nice walk along the promenade would do me some good. It was a warm day in early December. There were lots of people outside – some sitting on the rocky beach; some sipping drinks at the beachfront bar.

Somewhere came the music…

I was in no hurry to go anywhere…

So I took the time…

Note:

If you have the money to spend, do book a stay at the city’s most prominent hotel. It is much more affordable off-season.

The restaurant no longer opens for lunch nor on Sundays. Le Menu Plaisir – a more economical version of the tasting menu is no longer offered at the time of this writing. But you get what you paid for. After all, this is a Michelin two-star restaurant.

My favorite in Nice, however, is an unassuming place in the old town called Le Bistrot d’Antoine.

The food was delicious and the price very reasonable. Make sure to book ahead.
